Who We Are
We started Shields River Farm & Nursery to provide high quality, affordable local trees, native shrubs, perennials and much more to Southwest Montana landscapers and homeowners.
We love visitors! Check our contact page for hours or call to schedule a farm tour.
Meet Your Farmers: Tyson & Jessica Stillman
Having both grown up wandering Montana’s backroads, fields and riverbeds, we made our dream of returning to our roots a reality in the summer of 2020!
Tyson grew up 20 miles south of our farm along Highway 89 and Jessica grew up in Four Corners, just west of Bozeman, MT.
Tyson comes from a background of ranching, tree farms and other local farm work. He graduated from Montana State University with degrees in Sustainable Agriculture and Native American Studies.
Tyson loves researching and expanding our selection of Montana hardy trees and shrubs, while also working tirelessly on our soil health and growing/foraging mushrooms around the valley. He has achieved the title of Certified Plant Professional from the MNLA network.
Jessica has worked for numerous community organizations and nonprofits. She is a graduate of MSU with degrees in Global/ Multicultural Studies and English Literature.
Jessica brings her passion for growing food forests, saving native seeds and exploring new hardy edible flowers and vegetables to grow. She is also the Market Manager for the local Farmers Market; Shields Valley Market.
Our Approach to Farming
Go behind the scenes to learn the care we take in cultivating our plants. We we thrilled to collaborate with Abundant Montana to produce this Meet Your Farmer video!
Zorra & Buddy
We can’t forget our faithful farm mascots!
Both rescue dogs from around Montana, Zorra is enjoying her double digit years basking in the sunshine while Buddy enjoys chasing rodents through the grass and touring around the riverbeds.
And our newest addition…Burt!
We adopted Burt in August, 2022!
He’s a mixed breed dog from the Wolf Point area and is sweet as they come.
Zorra has her hands full training this one and Buddy enjoys having a friend to follow him around the farm!
